Dunedin is a unique waterfront town. Proud of its Scottish heritage and located on the shores of St. Joseph Sound, Dunedin has become a popular destination for travelers looking for a less crowded Florida get away. This quaint little town has so much to offer. Dunedin has many older ranch and cottage style homes as well as some attractive real estate along the four miles of beautiful waterfront.
Some area attractions include the marina district which offers excellent waterfront dining, the beach at Caladesi Island was rated the number one in America in 2008, Honeymoon Island is just over the Dunedin causeway, and there is an area of Main Street that is reminiscent of Mayberry, the town on the old Andy Griffith TV show. Known for it's lively downtown and vibrant art scene, Dunedin has 25 art festivals each year. Coastal Living Magazine says that "Dunedin my be the Tampa Bay Area's best kept secret".
It's also a nice benefit to live so close to many award winning restaurants. Down town Dunedin is very walkable and has probably a dozen or more fun restaurants. Have a blackened fish sandwich at Sea Sea Riders or a good margarita and some Mexican food at Casa Tina. Just off main street are some great breweries too.
Home values have been on an upward trend and I expect that to continue. The average home price in Dunedin is around $205,000. However, if you are in the market for a luxurious and historic estate on the St. Joseph Sound, the Kellogg Mansion is listed at $4.5 million.
